Green Our Planet’s myriad events bring hands-on learning to life for teachers and students.

Teachers learn how to integrate garden-based, experiential STEM learning into their classrooms through our popular teacher trainings and by attending sessions at our Annual School Garden Conference, while  students can get real-life experience at our famous Giant Student Farmers Markets, where 500-700 students from more than 60 schools sell their school-garden-grown produce to the public.

Giant Student Farmers Markets

The Spring 2023 Giant Student Farmers Market will be held on Friday, April 21st from 9:30am-1:00pm at Downtown Summerlin, under the pavilion. More details to come!

Students can learn real-life business and math skills at Green Our Planet’s semiannual Giant Student Farmers Markets–the largest student-run farmers markets in the United States. Over 600 students from more than 60 schools commonly attend.

While growing their vegetables from seeds, students also learn how to run their own businesses and create a school-garden-based business plan. At the Giant Farmers Markets, they’re matched with bankers who coach them through customer service and negotiation as they sell their garden-grown fruits and vegetables to the community. Market day is a day that neither the public who buy, nor the students who sell, will ever forget.

Teacher Training

Just because you’re a teacher doesn’t mean you naturally feel comfortable teaching experientially in a school garden or that you are a STEM expert. Our online teacher trainings can immediately put you at ease and give you all of the knowledge you need. The trainings are taught by our teachers, horticulturalists and hydroponic experts and are approved by the Nevada Department of Education.

After taking a Green Our Planet teacher training, teachers will be experts at teaching STEM subjects using school gardens and hydroponic systems.

Educators will leave the trainings with…

  • Expanded STEM content knowledge
  • An inquiry-based approach to teaching STEM
  • Practical gardening knowledge
  • 1 PDE credit or 5 CUs
