Speaker Spotlight: Stephanie Porto’s Insights on Educating Healthy, Whole Kids

Stephanie Porto is a Programs Analyst for the Whole Kids Foundation. In other words, she manages grants administration and support for Whole Kids Foundation—a nonprofit organization founded by Whole Foods Market and dedicated to improving children’s nutrition and wellness. Each year, the Whole Kids Foundation awards 600 garden grants. They also have developed a system to support applicants in developing and maintaining their garden programs. At Green Our Planet’s School Garden Conference on Saturday, April 27, the point person herself will speak and answer Q&A about the key components of a successful grant application and garden program.

Our grant application is designed to help the applicant think through all the key elements of a successful school garden, so knowing the best ways to translate those plans into a strong grant application is essential.

As a dietician and former Research Coordinator for a study on family-based treatment for childhood obesity, Porto is versed in public health and pediatric nutrition, especially in regard to what kids are eating at school. Her work at Whole Kids Foundation allows her to pursue her passion for providing kids with healthier food options via school gardens.
