From initial idea to 3D or CAD rendering, Green Our Planet is there to help!
Green Our Planet’s in-house talent includes landscape designers capable of designing everything from a standard, 6-bed school garden to the most complex of garden layouts.
Most schools typically opt for an initial garden of 6, 8’x 4’ raised brick beds, complete with organic soil, automatic drip irrigation and often with a complement of 8-10 fruit trees. We have found from experience that brick lasts far longer than wood (pretty much forever) while it is far more easily moved or altered in form, if necessary, than cement beds, which cannot be moved once they are installed. Schools change constantly as new classrooms or structures are added, so having flexibility built into your garden design is an advantage.
For builds that include grass removal, Green Our Planet recomends a layer of weed barrier (not all companies do!) after the grass is removed and before adding a layer of gravel on top, as the weed barrier will help immensely in preventing the grass from returning. Garden installations are best if they come complete with an adjacent hose faucet so that a hose can be easily connected rather than having to potentially run a hose hundreds of feet from the nearby school. Garden beds and fruit trees should always be connected to separate valves so that the watering times to each can be operated independently.
