1 year. 250 schools. 200,000 students. 9,000 teachers. 800,000 family members…
All empowered to grow food using outdoor and indoor school gardens thanks to The Engelstad Foundation. The Engelstad Foundation generously donated $2.5 million to Green Our Planet to explode the school garden and hydroponics movement across the United States to improve STEM education, create healthy communities and connect people to the planet in a meaningful way.
Over the past 9 years, Green Our Planet has built school gardens and hydroponics laboratories in 330 schools impacting over 160,000 students. But now, in just 1 year, Green Our Planet will build gardens and hydroponics labs at 250 schools. That’s almost 1 school per day for every day of the year!
From the Arctic Circle to Brooklyn, downtown Las Vegas to Sparks, Nevada, we will inspire the next generation of scientists, conservationists, farmers, chefs and entrepreneurs together. Across the nation, we will empower communities in food deserts to grow their own food. We will encourage people of all races, socioeconomic status and creeds to fall in love with the planet so they want to protect it.
Green Our Planet has spent 9 years designing the systems and best practices, and now the Engelstad Foundation is providing the funding to make all of this possible. Thank you to The Engelstad Foundation for empowering Green Our Planet to work with communities to change the world!
Special thanks to The Obama Foundation for selecting Ciara Byrne, Green Our Planet’s Co-Founder and Co-CEO, to join the 2019 Obama Fellows Class. The Obama Foundation is supporting Green Our Planet’s mission of bringing school gardens and hydroponic systems to schools across Nevada and beyond as a way to improve student academic achievement in STEM and entrepreneurship as well as improve student nutritional choices and educate the next generation of conservationists.
