This fall, our STEM Hydroponics Program has grown. We’ve added 14 schools to the program, including 5 schools outside of Las Vegas and 5 schools outside of Nevada.
As part of our program, schools receive a standards-based K-5 STEM curriculum, individualized support in the form of hands-on workshops from our hydroponics team, which cover starting seeds, maintaining the units, transplanting and harvest. The schools also receive a different hydroponics system for each grade level, so students explore and experiment with several hydroponics techniques. The complexity of the systems build upon each other: kindergartners learn through the simplest Kratky system while fifth graders use a commercial horizontal hydroponics unit. When students get to the fifth-grade, they have a clear idea of the STEM concepts that underlie hydroponics.
Thank you to Los Vaqueros, Sands, Tesla and the Agassi Foundation for Education for supporting the Hydroponics STEM Program and making hands-on learning experiences a reality for students across the nation.
