Joey Rivela

Joey brings years of professional horticulture experience to the care and cultivation of Green Our Planet’s gardens. Today, much of his work centers on Compassionate Gardens, the organization’s headquarters and community hub, where he helps keep growing spaces healthy, productive, and ready to support community programming.

People are often surprised to learn that Joey is a horticulturalist—but plants have been a serious part of his professional life for years. Before joining Green Our Planet, he spent seven years in Nevada’s cannabis industry managing large-scale indoor cultivation. One of his favorite projects involved sowing and evaluating new plant varieties through research and development, observing how plants within the same species responded differently to their growing environment.

That curiosity continues to shape Joey’s approach today, combining careful observation with hands-on cultivation experience to give each garden the attention it needs to thrive.
