Every year, more than 900 students and 70 schools participate in Green Our Planet’s Giant Student Farmers Markets.
From school gardens to vibrant community gathering spaces, a student-powered movement is growing—and the nation is starting to take notice.
On April 22 (Earth Day!), more than 500 students from across the Las Vegas Valley will transform Downtown Summerlin into Green Our Planet’s Giant Student Farmers Market—the largest student-run farmers market in the nation. After months of learning about business plans, marketing, and customer service—while growing fruits and veggies in their school gardens and hydroponic systems—these young Farmpreneurs will sell their harvest to the community and reinvest the proceeds back into their school garden programs.
Green Our Planet has hosted the Giant Student Farmers Markets in Las Vegas since 2016; in 2023, we expanded to Northern Nevada with an annual market in Carson City.
Now, thanks to a recent $500,000 USDA Farmers Market Promotion Program award, this momentum is reaching beyond Nevada.
With this support, we will expand our Giant Student Farmers Market model to additional states, giving thousands more students the chance to grow food, build confidence, strengthen financial literacy skills, and experience what it means to be entrepreneurs in service of their communities.
Green Our Planet was one of just 43 organizations selected nationwide through this highly competitive program — and the only awardee in Nevada.
This grant is more than funding. It is a powerful vote of confidence in a model that helps young people connect to the planet, to healthy food, and to their own potential.
